Q. What is the DS-160? 

A. The DS-160 is an online visa application used by the Department of State to determine a person’s eligibility for a US visa. It must be completed and submitted at US Consulates and Embassies in order to schedule a visa appointment. 

 

Q. Is the DS-160 mandatory? 
A. Yes, the DS-160 is mandatory for all visa applicants. 

 

Q. Where can I access the DS-160? 
A. The DS-160 may be accessed through the Consulate website where you will apply for your visa. 

 

Q. What do I need to complete the DS-160? 
A. Before sitting down to complete the DS-160 form online, we recommend having the following documents available:  

• Passport 
• Travel itinerary, if you have already made travel arrangements. 

• Dates of your last five visits or trips to the United States, if you have previously travelled to the United States. You may also be asked for your international travel history for the past five years.  
• Résumé or Curriculum Vitae - You may be required to provide information about your current and previous education and work history. 

• Other Information - Some applicants, depending on the intended purpose of travel, will be asked to provide additional information when completing the DS-160.
